PRESENT

Ceramic’s tactile nature has always fascinated me. The capacity to create something tangible from raw materials, feeling the clay react differently to touch, pressure, water, or heat is infinitely captivating.

I draw inspiration from diverse corners of the world. Being Dutch, I have grown up with the classical architecture and beautiful shapes found in every corner of Europe. On the other hand, I have always had an affinity with the East, which only grew stronger during my Chinese studies, my time in Taiwan and Indonesia. The simplicity and elegance of Eastern aesthetics have always fascinated me, and bring me a sense of tranquility. Equally, the classical elegance of Greek and Italian ceramics evoke romance and elegance, providing me with a different creative inspiration. In my work I aim to blend these inspirations, forming a dialogue between cultures, eras, and techniques.

PAST

My ceramics journey began in high school, where I discovered a natural affinity for shaping and manipulating clay into earthenware sculptures. Throughout my academic pursuits in Chinese Studies at the University of Leiden and an arts minor at the Royal Art Academy in The Hague, I continued to explore ceramics, completing a Japanese Ceramics course with renowned Bizen ceramic artist Fujiwara Sensei. This was my introduction to raku-yaki and the concept of wabi-sabi.

In 2020, I started wheel-throwing under the guidance of Juul Meerdink in Amsterdam. Following this, I moved to Indonesia to immerse myself in a clay ashram at Gaya Ceramics, improving my wheel-throwing and glazing techniques. Since then I have continued to refine my skills across various locations in The Netherlands and Australia.

Currently residing in Australia.
